This lovely pendant depicts a Gold Plated over Sterling Silver REPLICA (copy) of the annual Half Shekel Silver coin that was used as tribute money in the time of the second temple. The coin was widely circulated in the days of the New Testament.
This coin type was minted in the second year of the First Jewish Revolt, dated 67 A.D, by Zealot faction in Judea in an attempt to restore independence from the Roman empire.
The coin features a chalice on one side with the year of the revolt above- year two, surrounded by the ancient Hebrew inscription “Shekel of Israel.” Three budding pomegranates are featured on the reverse, with the inscription “Jerusalem the Holy.”
